Ameloblastomas of the mid-facial region are relatively rare. Their biological behaviour is unpredictable and an aggressive behaviour, even with incomplete resection, may occur. This report concerns a review of the literature of these tumours. Clinical and histological features, treatment, complications and long-term prognosis of ameloblastomas of the mid-facial region were discussed. A total of 95 cases were found in the literature. Thirty cases (32.6%) were classified as unicystic ameloblastomas and 44 cases (47.3%) were classified as solid/multicystic ameloblastomas. These tumours were most frequently seen in the mandible (67 cases, 70.5%). These tumours presented with a more benign clinical behaviour than did ameloblastomas of other anatomical sites. Recurrence was observed in 30 cases (31.6%). Complications appeared to be associated with the stage of disease. Incomplete excision was the major cause of recurrence and complications. The risk of malignancy was low for all ameloblastomas.The Beano comic strip on the front page of today’s News (1/13/14) in the New York Times shows Black Men’s Month in full swing.
There are cartoons of Black males with apparent weapons and macho stereotypes. In the “prison line-up” cartoon, a large African American man appears with the following text: “Out of all the black guys who tried to escape, only one of them could get away”. This message was aimed at the New York Police Department in 2014, after a spate of black men were murdered by white police officers.
